Board games have steadily remained a popular source of entertainment over the years but their reliance on visual elements often makes them less than desirable in terms of accessibility for gamers with vision impairments. We want to explore the experiences of people with vision impairments playing board games, topics ranging from barriers faced when playing them to methods you have used to make your own games more accessible. No level of board game experience is required, if you have any experiences or information you would like to discuss we would like to hear!

To be eligible to participate in this study, you must be: vision impaired, at least 18 years of age, and comfortable with the English language. This study will take no longer than 60 minutes and does not present any risk (physical, emotional, financial) to participants. While the research team member will take written notes during the interview, audio recordings are encouraged but optional to participation and you will have the opportunity to withdraw your consent from being recorded. All data will be stored on password-protected computers that are only accessible by the research personnel.

Interviews will take place via participants’ choice of online platform (e.g. Zoom, Google Meet) or by Phone. Participants will also be compensated for their time with a $25 e-gift card of your choosing, with the default option being from Amazon.
